According to an exclusive report by Spanish outlet AS, Jose Mourinho has decided to appoint former German international Sami Khedira to his technical coaching staff at Real Madrid.
Since the “Special One” was reappointed, rumors have circulated that he wanted to add a former Real Madrid player to his staff. The objective is to foster better communication between the coaching team, the squad, and the club’s board of directors.
The Surprise Selection: Khedira Over Pepe and Carvalho
While names like Pepe and Ricardo Carvalho were initially rumored for the role, Mourinho surprised many by reaching out directly to Khedira. The German midfielder has reportedly accepted the offer to become Mourinho’s assistant manager, with an official announcement expected in the coming days.
Khedira is anticipated to play a pivotal role in daily training sessions and, more importantly, inside the locker room. His presence aims to restore stability and unity following the turbulent events of last season.
A Familiar Partnership Returns to the Bernabéu
Khedira is no stranger to Mourinho’s management style, having played under the Portuguese tactician at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013. In total, the midfielder made 161 appearances for Los Blancos before departing for Juventus in 2015.
After retiring from professional football in 2021, Khedira gained valuable administrative experience, serving as a management consultant for Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart between 2022 and 2024.
