Reports have surfaced in recent days about the possibility of Mohamed Salah joining Inter Miami after the “Egyptian King” announced his departure from Liverpool at the end of the current season.
MLS Commissioner Gerber has clearly stated his desire to have Salah join the league, but so far, no major club has expressed interest in signing the 34-year-old.
It was recently suggested that Inter Miami wanted to sign Salah to form a formidable attacking trio with Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, but in reality, this is “virtually impossible.”
The reason behind this is purely economic. Inter Miami cannot afford Mohamed Salah’s salary due to the strict regulations imposed by MLS regarding the salary cap.
The league grants American clubs an exception to the salary cap for three players per club, and at the moment, Inter Miami has already fulfilled this limit and cannot add another big-name player.
On the salary scale, Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, and Germain Bertrami each receive salaries exceeding €6 million annually (Inter Miami’s salary cap).
Therefore, if Inter Miami wants to sign Salah, they would first have to offload one of these stars, which is unlikely given their importance to the team.
It’s worth noting that Messi criticized this rule in 2025, stating, “MLS clubs are unable to make the signings they want because of this rule. It needs to be amended to attract more stars. I believe the league can develop, but first, serious legal steps must be taken.”
