It has become increasingly likely that Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Al-Nassr in the coming weeks unless a compromise is reached with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), according to Portuguese journalist Duarte Monteiro.
The Portuguese star has missed Al-Nassr’s last two matches due to his objection to the PIF’s policy of supporting Al-Hilal during the winter transfer window while failing to provide Al-Nassr with sufficient financial assistance to make signings that would help them compete for the Saudi League title.
Monteiro stated in an interview with Al-Arabiya that Ronaldo wants to play consistently during the remainder of the current season to prepare optimally for the 2026 World Cup with the Portuguese national team.
Ronaldo will have to reach an agreement with the PIF that satisfies all parties; otherwise, the 40-year-old will be forced to submit a formal request to leave Al-Nassr immediately, with the MLS being his likely next destination.
The new MLS season kicks off next March, and the transfer window is still open, making it practically the only viable option for Ronaldo to secure regular playing time before the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Meanwhile, staying with Al-Nassr remains Ronaldo’s preferred choice. The Portuguese legend hopes to lead the Jeddah-based club to titles and remains deeply attached to the team, especially given the strong fan support he has received recently.
This week is expected to see a crucial meeting between Ronaldo and officials from the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) to reach a suitable agreement that would allow the player to return to Al-Nassr for upcoming matches in the Saudi Pro League and the AFC Champions League.
