Spanish media outlets are unanimously convinced that Manchester City star Rodri will not move to Real Madrid during the 2025 summer transfer window, but there is a chance the deal could be completed in the near future.
Real Madrid is looking to sign a new midfielder to fill the void left by Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. Xabi Alonso has reportedly requested Rodri, while the Los Blancos believe he is the only player in the world worth €100 million.
According to AS, Real Madrid’s interest in Rodri is real, but signing him in the summer of 2025 is near-impossible. Manchester City is holding on to the player, and the Spanish club does not intend to spend large sums of money this summer to strengthen its midfield.
However, the newspaper confirms that the summer of 2026 could see the completion of this deal, especially since Rodri himself has welcomed a move to Real Madrid and has publicly stated this previously.
Real Madrid will closely monitor Rodri’s recovery from last season’s serious injury, and how he performs this season. If he continues on the same path that led him to win the 2024 Ballon d’Or, Florentino Pérez and his management will work hard to secure a deal next summer.
Rodri, 29, has a contract with Manchester City until the summer of 2027, and Real Madrid’s management is aware that signing him in the summer of 2026 is possible. If the player wants to leave then, the English management will have no objection to him leaving, rather than leaving for free the following year.
In this case, Rodri would not cost Real Madrid €100 million or more. The deal could even be completed for a lower sum, reaching €70 million in the most extreme cases.
It should be noted that Real Madrid has decided not to sign a new midfielder this summer, as they are not convinced by any of the names on the table, and are only interested in Rodri, with no other available names.
