Rodri fumes after Brighton loss: I’m not Messi, we play like kids!

Manchester City star Rodri expressed his deep anger after his team’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton, describing some of the behavior of Pep Guardiola’s squad as “childish.”

The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner started the match for the first time since returning from his cruciate ligament injury and was surprised by the hopes many had of him making an immediate impact. He said, “I’m not Messi, and I’m not going to go back and make the team win again and again on my own.”

He added, “This is a team game. When we’ve won in the past, I’ve needed my teammates, and now I definitely need to get back to my best.”

He continued, attacking Manchester City’s stars, “Some of the mistakes we’ve made are childish, due to a lack of focus and attention. The truth is, we need to raise our level if we want to compete.”

He continued, “We started the match well, then dropped off in the second half. We’re disappointed because we’re Manchester City and always come out to win, but that’s the reality. We’ve been off our game for a long time.”

He concluded, “We have a lot of new players and they need time to adapt. This is our reality and not an excuse for the defeat. We must now take advantage of the break.”

It’s worth noting that Manchester City have collected only three points from their first three matches, having beaten Wolverhampton Wanderers, then lost to Tottenham Hotspur and finally Brighton.
