Robert Lewandowski has officially decided on his next footballing chapter, choosing to join MLS club Chicago Fire for his first-ever spell in American soccer.
Fabrizio Romano Confirms Lewandowski’s Free Transfer to Chicago Fire
The Polish superstar left Barcelona as a free agent following the expiration of his contract at the end of the season. Over the past month, he carefully evaluated multiple offers from both Europe and abroad. According to renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Lewandowski ultimately chose Chicago Fire after a personal visit to the city two weeks ago.
In the coming hours, the 38-year-old striker will sign a two-year contract with the American franchise, followed by an official announcement welcoming him to the star-studded Major League Soccer. Chicago Fire currently sits in an impressive third place in the MLS Eastern Conference standings.
Why Lewandowski Rejected Serie A and Missed Out on Saudi Pro League
Before finalizing his move to the United States, Lewandowski received concrete offers from Italian giants AC Milan and Juventus. However, low financial proposals prevented a move to either Serie A powerhouse.
Additionally, a recent policy shift by the Saudi Pro League to cut spending and restrict massive salaries for aging players completely ended Lewandowski’s chances of moving to the Middle East, paving his way directly to the MLS.
