The British newspaper “The Telegraph” claims that a joke Karim Benzema sent to Cristiano Ronaldo was the primary reason for the latter’s recent outburst against the Saudi Public Investment Fund.
During the final hours of the winter transfer window, Karim Benzema moved from Al-Ittihad to Al-Hilal, angering Ronaldo after Al-Nassr failed to secure sufficient financial support to make significant winter signings, unlike what happened with Al-Hilal.
According to the report, Ronaldo is in constant contact with his former Real Madrid teammate, Karim Benzema, and they discussed his move to Al-Hilal last month.
Benzema jokingly told Ronaldo that he not only received a pay raise from the move to Al-Hilal but would also win the Saudi League title again.
This joke did not sit well with Ronaldo, who is still striving to win his first official title with Al-Nassr after three years in which he has only won one trophy, the unofficial Arab Club Championship.
It is noted that the Saudi Investment Fund has met Ronaldo’s demands in the past few hours, allowing the player to return to Al-Nasr’s training and decide to participate in matches again, starting with the Al-Fateh match next week.
