Reports: Al-Ahly Decides to Dismiss Riveiro Following Loss to Pyramids

Al-Ahly’s management has decided to terminate the services of coach Jose Riveiro following the 2-0 defeat to Pyramids in the fifth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

Riveiro took over as coach of Al-Ahly, succeeding Marcel Koller after a transitional period at the end of last season for local coach Emad El-Nahhas. He began his tenure specifically with the Club World Cup.

The Spaniard failed to make any significant contribution. Instead, Al-Ahly’s performances declined under his leadership, resulting in one of the worst starts to a season in the club’s history.

According to Egyptian media reports, Al-Ahly will not wait long. President Mahmoud El-Khatib has decided to dismiss Riveiro immediately, with his successor yet to be decided.

Al-Ahly is set to appoint Emad El-Nahhas as interim coach until a new foreign coach is hired. There are suggestions that an Egyptian coach, Hossam El-Badry, is known for his strong character, especially after his recent success in winning the Libyan Premier League title.

Riveiro is considered one of Al Ahly’s worst coaches in history, having managed only one victory in seven official matches, against Pharco, while he drew four times and suffered two defeats, the last of which was against Pyramids.
