Real Madrid writes the death certificate of the Super League!

UEFA and Real Madrid announced on Wednesday that they have reached an agreement to end their bitter legal battle, which erupted over the failed European Super League project.

UEFA, the European Club Association, and the Spanish giants stated that they had reached an “agreement in principle” that respects the principle of sporting merit, following months of talks aimed at promoting the “well-being” of European club football.

A joint statement from both parties read: “This agreement in principle will also settle the legal disputes relating to the Super League, once these principles are implemented and come into force.”

Last October, Real Madrid sought compensation from UEFA after the club stated that the Madrid Regional Court had rejected appeals filed by UEFA, the Spanish Football Federation, and La Liga regarding the Super League.

Real Madrid was among 12 European clubs that backed the breakaway Super League in 2021, before the project collapsed under pressure from fans and governments. With clubs withdrawing, including six from the English Premier League, Real Madrid and Barcelona remained the only ones supporting the project, which briefly threatened to rival the Champions League.

However, Barcelona officially withdrew from the Super League last week, leaving Real Madrid as the sole remaining defender of the competition.

The recent agreement between Real Madrid and UEFA is seen as the final straw for the Super League project, effectively writing its death certificate.
