According to the newspaper Sport, Real Madrid is no longer interested in signing Manchester City star and 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri.
Florentino Pérez and his entourage are still searching for a new midfielder to replace Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, and Rodri was reportedly their top target.
Rodri’s contract with Manchester City expires in the summer of 2027, and renewal talks have not yet progressed as hoped.
The latest report indicates that Real Madrid’s management highly values Rodri, but he does not meet the club’s criteria for several reasons.
The first reason is that his contract with Manchester City is still valid, and the English club will not agree to sell him for less than €60 million, a price the management considers too high for a player whose contract expires in a year.
The second and most important reason is that Rodri is approaching his 31st birthday and has not yet fully recovered from his knee injury, raising doubts about his ability to return to his previous form. The newspaper emphasized that Real Madrid has not abandoned its plans to strengthen its midfield but will look for a young player in the summer transfer market.
It is worth noting that Paris Saint-Germain star Vitinha has closed the door on a potential move to Real Madrid, narrowing the Merengues’ list of targets to Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and AZ Alkmaar’s Kees Smit.
