Real Madrid will be without another star for Sunday’s La Liga match against Barcelona due to injury.
According to Marca, David Alaba will miss El Clásico after sustaining an injury against Getafe last week.
The Austrian international started the match, which ended with a goal from Kylian Mbappé, before leaving the game at halftime with a muscle injury.
The reassuring news is that the injury is not serious, but the 33-year-old will need 10 days of rest before he can return to action.
It is now certain that Alaba will miss Wednesday’s Champions League match against Juventus or El Clásico against Barcelona. His return will be against Valencia in early November.
Alaba has suffered numerous injuries over the past two years, and Real Madrid’s management has reportedly already decided not to renew his contract, which expires at the end of the current season.
In Alaba’s absence, Xabi Alonso’s options at center back will be limited to Éder Militao and Raúl Asensio, with Antonio Rüdiger and Den Huijsen out injured.
Real Madrid is currently working to ensure Huijsen is available for El Clásico, but it is not yet clear how well he will recover and when he will be able to play again with Alonso.
