Spanish media reports indicate that Real Madrid has reversed its previous decision not to sign Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté when his contract with the Reds expires at the end of the current season.
Last November, Real Madrid confirmed in talks with Liverpool that Konaté was not in Florentino Pérez’s plans to bolster the center-back position, despite earlier reports of the player’s desire to join the Santiago Bernabéu.
Real Madrid focused on other targets for the center-back position, but most of them have recently either signed with a new club, like Liverpool’s new defender Jacquet, or renewed their contracts with their respective clubs, as was the case with Dayot Upamecano.
Ultimately, it seems that Pérez’s options are running out, leading the club to look at players they have previously been interested in, and Konaté, who will not renew his contract with Liverpool, is considered an interesting option for this reason.
Over the past few years, Real Madrid has consistently pursued a policy of signing players on free transfers after their contracts expire, as was the case with David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger. This makes Konaté an ideal option.
The current issue is that Konaté’s form has noticeably declined recently with Liverpool, which led to a waning of interest a few months ago. However, it now seems that Real Madrid’s management is more convinced of the Frenchman’s abilities and has reopened negotiations with his agent.
