Real Madrid has reopened internal discussions regarding the potential transfer of Manchester City midfielder Rodri, following his extraordinary performances in leading Spain to the 2026 FIFA World Cup title.
According to football journalist Matteo Moretto, members of the Real Madrid board are pushing to strike a deal with the Spanish star after he was named the World Cup Golden Ball winner (Best Player of the Tournament) and guided La Roja to a final victory over Argentina.
Rodri is reportedly open to returning to La Liga, which has been his priority for some time. The Spanish midfielder dreams of wearing the Real Madrid shirt, provided both clubs reach an agreement during the summer transfer window.
However, Florentino Pérez remains the primary obstacle. The Real Madrid president had previously ruled out a move for the player a few weeks ago, but Rodri’s World Cup display has prompted board members to urge a re-evaluation of the decision.
The 30-year-old midfielder is under contract with Manchester City until the summer of 2027. This contract situation may force the Premier League champions to resolve his future this summer to avoid entering the final year of his deal without an extension.
While Manchester City has submitted a lucrative renewal offer, Rodri has delayed his response, waiting to see whether Real Madrid will make a formal approach.
