Real Madrid has reached an agreement with Thibaut Courtois to renew his contract for an additional year, according to Marca.
The Belgian international’s contract at the Santiago Bernabéu expires in the summer of 2026, and there was no intention of letting him go due to his significant importance to coach Xabi Alonso’s squad.
Florentino Pérez’s initial intention was to break its established rule of renewing the contract of any player over the age of 32 for one season and give Courtois a two-year contract. However, the club ultimately decided to continue the same policy and renew the Belgian’s contract only until the summer of 2027.
Courtois joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2018 from Chelsea and has since won 14 trophies with Los Blancos.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid secured the future of its goalkeeper after agreeing with Andriy Lunin to continue in the Spanish capital next season, even if he remains on the bench.
The Ukrainian international received several offers over the past two summers, but his desire to one day become Real Madrid’s first-choice goalkeeper remained undiminished. This ultimately led him to reject all available options and wait for his chance with Los Blancos.
Lunin’s contract with Real Madrid runs until the summer of 2030 and has no release clause, giving Los Blancos confidence that he will remain without pressure.
