Real Madrid is looking to bolster its midfield, and at the behest of coach Xabi Alonso, Florentino Pérez’s management is willing to pay €100 million to sign just one star.
Mundo Deportivo reports that this player is Rodri, the Manchester City star, whose contract with coach Pep Guardiola’s team still extends until the summer of 2027.
For Real Madrid, there is no midfielder in the world worth paying such a huge sum. He is also Alonso’s first choice, and he sees him as the most suitable replacement for the legendary duo Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.
There is no doubt that signing the 29-year-old will not be easy. On the one hand, Manchester City will not sell him this summer, and on the other hand, there are doubts that the player will welcome a move to Real Madrid.
Rodri had previously said he was only thinking about Manchester City, but later made another statement saying he was proud of Real Madrid’s interest and that if the Spanish giants approached him, he would undoubtedly not turn a blind eye and would be interested in the move.
However, given the massive upheaval at the Etihad Stadium after last season’s dismal season, a deal for Rodri to Real Madrid would be extremely complicated. It’s more likely that it will be easier next summer if the player doesn’t renew his contract with City.
It’s worth noting that Rodri, the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, has just returned from his cruciate ligament injury and played a small part in the 2025 Club World Cup. He hopes to be fully fit before the start of the new season in mid-August.
