AS reported that Real Madrid’s management, in coordination with Xabi Alonso, has already decided the fate of two Real Madrid players. One has been informed of his departure, while the other is part of the Spanish coach’s plans for the new season.
Real Madrid signed Álvaro Carreras from Benfica a few weeks ago for a fee of up to €50 million, creating a left-back slump in the presence of Fran García and Ferland Mendy.
According to AS, Alonso asked the club’s management to keep Fran García and reject any offers for him, given that he was available on the market. This is an attempt to generate some financial income that would help Los Blancos make other summer signings.
However, Alonso was clear that García should leave, especially since the 23-year-old performed well at the 2025 Club World Cup, and the coach sees him as the most suitable replacement for Carreras next season.
In the same context, Ferland Mendy has been informed that he is not in Alonso’s plans and that he must find a new club and leave immediately this summer.
The French international’s contract still extends until the summer of 2028, but Florentino Pérez’s management will not object to selling him for no more than €20 million to offload his large salary.
Alonso believes that Mendy does not suit his style, especially if he plays in his preferred 3-5-2 formation. Furthermore, the player’s numerous injuries over the past two years make relying on him a pointless risk.
It should be noted that one of the two players, Endrick or Gonzalo Garcia, will go out on loan this summer. The Brazilian star is currently the most likely to be available after his Spanish counterpart succeeded in convincing Alonso during the Club World Cup.
