Marca has revealed that Real Madrid officials are furious with England manager Thomas Tuchel over his decision to call up Jude Bellingham to the Three Lions squad for the last international break, despite the player not being fully recovered from his injury.
Bellingham participated in group training sessions with the England squad, but Tuchel did not allow him to play a single minute in the friendly matches against Uruguay and Japan. Tuchel explained that it was a “risk” he did not want to take, fearing a relapse in his recent injury that could lead to a lengthy absence from the pitch.
The Spanish newspaper quoted a source within the Real Madrid management expressing the officials’ astonishment at the decision to call up Bellingham, considering the 23-year-old’s trip to London to be “completely pointless” from a sporting perspective.
On the other hand, Tuchel believes that calling up Bellingham was very beneficial for him and contributed in one way or another to his preparation for the upcoming period. Therefore, he is surprised that Real Madrid officials are not convinced that this move ultimately benefited the club.
It’s worth noting that Bellingham returned to action for Real Madrid immediately before the end of the international break, playing 16 minutes against Atlético Madrid in the derby, which Los Blancos won 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Now, the England international is preparing for a busy period of important matches, as Real Madrid faces Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals. Álvaro Arbeloa had hoped that Bellingham would use the international break to regain his fitness and consequently start against the Bavarians, but that ultimately didn’t happen.
Bellingham has made 29 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions, scoring 6 goals and providing 4 assists.
