Real Madrid and RB Leipzig have entered the final stages of negotiations for the transfer of Ivorian winger Yan Diomande to the Santiago Bernabéu during the summer transfer window.
Real Madrid had previously agreed personal terms with Diomande; however, RB Leipzig’s financial demands delayed the deal over the past week. Negotiations have now progressed significantly, with a comprehensive agreement close to being finalized.
Expected Transfer Value and Record Financial Breakdown
According to Sky Germany, the total value of the deal—including add-ons and performance bonuses—is expected to range between €130 million and €140 million. The two clubs are currently finalizing the structure of the deal, specifically the balance between fixed transfer fees and future variables.
While neither club has granted final official approval, negotiations are on the verge of completion, clearing the path for the player to undergo medical examinations and sign his contract.
If finalized within this price range, Diomande will become the most expensive sale in RB Leipzig’s history, surpassing Croatian defender Joško Gvardiol, who moved to Manchester City in 2023 for approximately €90 million.
Furthermore, if the total package reaches or exceeds €130 million, Diomande will become the most expensive transfer in Real Madrid’s history, surpassing Jude Bellingham’s arrival from Borussia Dortmund (which reached approximately €127 million with bonuses), as well as previous record signings Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Real Madrid Beat Paris Saint-Germain to Diomande Signature
Paris Saint-Germain were among the frontrunners to sign Diomande and had engaged in advanced talks with RB Leipzig prior to Real Madrid’s intervention.
Initial proposals discussed between PSG and Leipzig included a potential swap-plus-cash deal involving young PSG winger Ibrahim Mbaye moving to Germany to facilitate Diomande’s transfer to Paris.
However, Real Madrid’s entry into the race and Diomande’s preference to wear the iconic white shirt completely shifted the direction of the transfer. PSG subsequently announced their withdrawal from the race, citing the player’s salary expectations and Leipzig’s steep transfer fee demands.
Yan Diomande’s Statistics with RB Leipzig
Diomande joined RB Leipzig from Spanish side Leganés in summer 2025, quickly establishing himself as one of the Bundesliga’s premier breakout talents.
The Ivorian winger made 36 appearances across all competitions during his debut season with Leipzig, recording 13 goals and 10 assists. In domestic league action, Diomande logged 12 goals and 8 assists in 33 Bundesliga matches, earning the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award for 2025–2026.
Final financial arrangements remain the last hurdle before Diomande officially completes his move to Real Madrid. While the historic fee places considerable expectations on the 19-year-old, it also reflects Los Blancos’ ultimate confidence in his ceiling and long-term future.
