Spanish media reports indicate that Real Madrid legend Raúl González is a strong candidate to coach one of La Liga’s top clubs in the near future.
Raúl worked with Real Madrid Castilla for over three years and left at the end of last season. He has been a candidate to coach the first team on several occasions and has also received offers from German clubs such as Schalke and Union Berlin.
According to reports, Raúl is on Real Sociedad’s shortlist of candidates to replace the recently sacked Sergio Francisco as manager of the Basque club.
Raúl faces stiff competition from several prominent figures in European football, including former Juventus coach Thiago Motta, Bundesliga manager Marco Rose, and former Stuttgart and Hoffenheim coach Manuel Pellegrino Materazzi.
Real Sociedad’s management has not yet made a final decision regarding the identity of the new coach, but at the moment the choice is between the four aforementioned names, with Raúl currently favored due to his experience in Spanish football and his fluency in the language.
If he takes over, Raúl’s task will be extremely difficult, as Real Sociedad sits in fifteenth place with only 15 points and has suffered a number of defeats, the most recent being against Girona last Saturday.
