According to Spanish outlet AS, Raul Asencio is refusing to leave Real Madrid this summer. The promising defender is spending his summer vacation undergoing rigorous physical preparation, determined to convince manager Jose Mourinho that he deserves a spot at the Santiago Bernabeu for the upcoming season.
The 23-year-old center-back has reportedly fallen down the pecking order at Real Madrid following the signing of Ibrahima Konate. With Dean Huijsen, Antonio Rudiger, and Eder Militao already in the squad—and the club potentially targeting another defender like Nico Schlotterbeck or Alessandro Bastoni—Asencio faces intense competition.
Reports indicate that Real Madrid’s management has already instructed Asencio’s agent to listen to incoming transfer offers, aiming to secure a significant financial return on the player this summer. However, Asencio remains steadfast in his desire to stay under Jose Mourinho’s command, especially given that his current contract runs until the summer of 2031.
“Asencio is training with a personal coach during the summer break. He looks like a ‘beast’ and is full of enthusiasm,” a source close to the player revealed.
The young defender is aiming to reach peak physical condition before Real Madrid’s pre-season training kicks off on July 13th. Ultimately, Asencio’s fate will lie in the hands of Jose Mourinho, who will evaluate him alongside other prospects like Gonzalo Garcia during the pre-season tour before making a final decision on his future.
