The highly anticipated Finalissima match between Spain and Argentina in Doha is now in limbo after the Qatar Football Association (QFA) decided to suspend all football tournaments indefinitely following the US and Israeli attacks on Iran and the subsequent retaliatory missile launches towards the Arabian Peninsula.
The match between European champions Spain and Copa América champions Argentina was scheduled to take place on March 27 at Lusail Stadium in Doha.
The QFA announced in a statement on Sunday: “The Qatar Football Association announces the postponement of all tournaments, competitions, and matches, effective immediately and until further notice.”
The final decision regarding the postponement of the match rests with the organizers, UEFA and CONMEBOL – the governing bodies of football in their respective continents.
The Middle East has been on high alert since Saturday, when the United States and Israel launched airstrikes against Iran, and Iran responded by attacking American targets in the region, including sites in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
