The Qatari national team has officially exited the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a 3-1 defeat against Bosnia and Herzegovina in their final Group C fixture at Lumen Field.
The Bosnian side opened the scoring with two quick goals; Alajbegović found the net in the 29th month, followed by an unfortunate own goal from Qatar’s Sultan Al-Brake in the 34th minute.
Hassan Al-Haydos pulled one back for Qatar in the 43rd minute, sparking a wave of relentless attacks from Al-Annabi, who ultimately lacked the clinical edge to grab an equalizer. In the 80th minute, Bosnian substitute Mamić sealed Qatar’s fate by scoring the third goal, condemning the Gulf nation to a group-stage exit for the second consecutive World Cup.
Group C Final Standings
Qatar had kicked off their World Cup campaign with a historic 1-1 draw against Switzerland, but their momentum collapsed following a bruising 6-0 defeat to Canada in the second round.
Needing a win against Bosnia to advance as one of the best third-placed teams, Qatar’s dreams shattered against Edin Džeko’s clinical side.
While Switzerland and Canada secured automatic qualification as the top two teams, Bosnia and Herzegovina now sits on 4 points, hoping to reach the Round of 32 via the best third-place rankings.
