According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has given Real Madrid his absolute priority for a move to the Spanish giants this summer.
The English defender’s contract with his current club expires at the end of this season, and he has made it clear that he intends to spend his final year at Selhurst Park, amidst interest from top clubs who are keen to sign him on a free transfer in the summer of 2026.
Real Madrid are looking for a new center-back this summer, and Guehi is among the options being considered by Florentino Perez’s administration, which has already contacted the player’s agent to explore the possibility of signing him.
The Merengues’ management had fears that Guehi already had an agreement in place with Liverpool, but his agent confirmed that the reports in the press were unfounded and that the player has not yet made a decision about his next destination or agreed to terms with any club.
Real Madrid’s management has also not yet decided whether Guehi is the desired reinforcement for their center-back position, but he is currently at the top of Florentino Perez’s list of potential signings.
As for Guehi, his agent has made it clear to Real Madrid that he would prefer a move to the Spanish club over any other, and that he dreams of one day playing at the Santiago Bernabéu.
It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will make a move for the English defender, or opt for one of the many other options available, including young players or experienced, relatively inexpensive options in Europe’s top five leagues.
It’s worth noting that Guehi was on the verge of joining Liverpool last summer for £35 million, but Crystal Palace blocked the deal at the last minute after manager Oliver Glasner threatened to resign if the center-back left.
