A state of anxiety has gripped Barcelona officials in recent hours, given the possibility of a lengthy absence for one of the Catalan club’s stars due to injury.
Earlier this week, Barça confirmed the disappointing news that winger Dani Olmo will be sidelined for the remainder of 2025 after dislocating his shoulder while scoring the winning goal against Atlético Madrid.
Barcelona had hoped Olmo would be able to return for the Catalan derby against Espanyol on January 3rd, but according to the newspaper “Sport,” it has been confirmed that the player will not be risked during his recovery.
Olmou previously dislocated the same shoulder in 2023, requiring two months of surgery, which is why there are fears of a longer absence if he needs to undergo surgery again.
The report indicates that Olmo could be out for up to four months if he requires shoulder surgery, meaning he would miss most of the remainder of the season. Barcelona are keen to avoid this scenario at all costs, which is why they are currently pursuing a conservative (non-surgical) treatment approach.
It remains to be seen how Olmo’s recovery progresses. It makes perfect sense for Barcelona to take the lowest possible risk, as a four-month layoff would be bad news for the player, who is aiming for a place in Spain’s 2026 World Cup squad, and for the club as well.
