Officially… Sam Morsy Returns to the Championship

Sam Morsy has returned to English football, specifically the Championship (the English second tier), after a brief stint away from the British leagues.

The Egyptian star is best known for his impressive spell with Ipswich Town, whom he led back to the Premier League. However, the team’s stay in the top flight lasted only one season before they were relegated back to the Championship.

After his contract with Ipswich expired last summer, Morsy moved to Kuwait SC, where he made just three appearances before mutually terminating his contract and returning as a free agent.

With the opening of the winter transfer window, Bristol City officially announced the signing of the 34-year-old on a six-month contract as a free agent.

Morsy has extensive experience in English football, starting with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ youth academy. He then moved to Port Vale, and also played for Chesterfield, Wigan Athletic, Barnsley, Middlesbrough, and Ipswich Town, before finally joining Bristol City.

Morsy had been linked with a move to Bristol City. He approached more than one Egyptian club over the past year and confirmed his interest in the idea, but financial demands prevented the deal from being completed, and in the end, he returned to England.
