Maguire joined the Red Devils from Leicester City for £80 million in 2019, a then-record transfer fee for a defender.

Since then, he has made 266 appearances for United, winning the League Cup in the 2022-23 season and the FA Cup the following season.

Maguire’s time at Old Trafford has been marked by ups and downs. Just five months after his arrival, former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appointed him captain, but he faced harsh criticism from some quarters. In April 2022, police searched his home after he received a bomb threat.

With Erik ten Hag taking charge, Maguire fell out of favor and was stripped of the captaincy in July 2023. Despite agreeing to a move to West Ham later on, he decided to stay and fight for his place.

Although he struggled for playing time under Ruben Amorim, he returned strongly under interim manager Michael Carrick, starting all ten matches since the latter’s appointment in mid-January.

“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honor and a responsibility that makes my family and me proud every single day,” Maguire said after signing his new contract.

“I’m delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and to continue playing in front of our exceptional fans and creating many more great moments together.”
