Officially… Former Real Madrid star replaces the retired Alba at Inter Miami

Inter Miami officially announced on Monday evening the signing of Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilón on a free transfer.

Reguilón had been without a club since his contract with Tottenham expired last July. Despite receiving numerous offers from Europe, he preferred to wait for several months before choosing his next destination.

Inter Miami began negotiations with the 28-year-old last October to bring him to the MLS champions, and these negotiations culminated in success with the player signing a three-year contract with coach Javier Mascherano’s squad.

Signing Reguilón seems a very logical move for Inter Miami following the retirement of Spanish legend Jordi Alba at the end of the season about a week ago. The club was in need of a replacement, and the former Real Madrid star emerged as the ideal choice.

Reguilón has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in European football. A product of Real Madrid’s youth academy, he was loaned to Sevilla after his impressive performances, before being sold to Tottenham for €30 million in the summer of 2020.

During his time with Spurs, he was loaned to Atlético Madrid and Manchester United, and his last club was Brentford last season. Tottenham ultimately decided not to renew his contract, allowing him to leave on a free transfer last summer.
