Officially… Egypt submits bid to host the Africa Cup of Nations, but…!

The Egyptian Football Association announced that it has contacted the Ministry of Youth and Sports to submit an official bid to host the Africa Cup of Nations.

Egyptian media had previously indicated the country’s desire to host the 2028 edition, but the surprise came in the Egyptian FA’s statement regarding the desired hosting date.

Egypt intends to host the Africa Cup of Nations in either 2032 or 2036.

The 2032 edition will be the first to be held under the new schedule (every four years), although Ethiopia has expressed particular interest in hosting it.

Undoubtedly, Egypt’s extensive infrastructure and the successful previous editions hosted in Cairo give the Egyptian bid a strong chance of winning the honor of hosting one of the two editions.

If Egypt succeeds, it will be the sixth time the Pharaohs have hosted the Africa Cup of Nations on their soil.

Egypt has previously won the Africa Cup of Nations seven times, three of those victories being in Cairo in 1959, 1986, and 2006.

The host city for the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations remains unknown. The 2027 edition is scheduled to be held in Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya, while the host for the final edition, which will be held at the original time, has yet to be determined.

Some reports have suggested that Botswana and South Africa might host the 2028 edition, but this has not yet been confirmed.
