Egypt secured its qualification for the 2026 World Cup following a 3-0 victory over Djibouti at the Arab Zaouili Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco, in the ninth round of the African World Cup qualifiers.
Ibrahim Adel scored Egypt’s first goal in the eighth minute with a superb header. Mohamed Salah then doubled the Pharaohs’ lead with a second goal in the 14th minute, thanks to a superb finish from the Liverpool star. Salah then scored the third goal in the 84th minute.
This victory raised Egypt’s tally to 23 points, leading the group, five points ahead of runner-up Burkina Faso with one round remaining, confirming coach Hossam Hassan’s squad’s participation in the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
This is the fourth time in history that Egypt has qualified for the World Cup, following participation in the 1934, 1990, and 2018 editions. The Nile country has yet to achieve a single victory in its previous World Cup participations.
Egypt has become the third Arab and African team to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup, after Morocco and Tunisia, and the fourth overall, with the addition of Jordan from Asia.
