Barcelona confirmed in an official statement that Lamine Yamal’s season is over following an injury sustained during Wednesday’s match against Celta Vigo.
According to the statement, the 18-year-old underwent medical tests this morning, which confirmed a hamstring injury in his left leg.
Despite the bad news that Yamal will not play again this season for Barcelona, the Catalan club reassured Spanish fans by stating that the player will be fit to represent his country at the 2026 World Cup.
Thus, Yamal’s season with Barcelona comes to an end after he scored 24 goals and provided 18 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions. He helped his team win the Spanish Super Cup, and Hansi Flick’s squad is now on the verge of winning La Liga for the second consecutive year.
According to the newspaper “Sport,” Yamal needs between one and one and a half months to return to the pitch, and it is highly unlikely he will be fit for Spain’s opening match against Cape Verde in the 2026 World Cup.
It is worth noting that the Spanish national team will begin its World Cup campaign against Cape Verde on June 15, followed by a match against Saudi Arabia on June 21, before concluding the group stage with a highly anticipated match against Uruguay on June 27.
