Officially: Al-Hilal Penalized for Withdrawing from the Saudi Super Cup

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation’s Disciplinary and Ethics Committee has penalized Al-Hilal for withdrawing from the 2025 Saudi Super Cup, scheduled to be held in Hong Kong.

Al-Hilal had previously announced its withdrawal from the tournament due to the players’ need for rest after last year’s grueling season, which extended into early July after the team reached the quarter-finals of the 2025 Club World Cup. This decision was made based on a decision by coach Simone Inzaghi.

The Disciplinary Committee decided to implement the regulations, fine Al-Hilal 500,000 Saudi Riyals, and ban it from participating in next year’s Super Cup. Al-Hilal will also be deprived of any funds allocated for the Saudi Super Cup, as the club has incurred financial losses for the tournament’s sponsors.

Al-Ahli will replace Al-Mawj Al-Azraq in the Super Cup and will meet Al-Qadisiyah in the semi-finals. The winner of this match will face the winner of the anticipated clasico between Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr in the final.

Al-Hilal is the club with the most Saudi Super Cup titles in history, having previously won the title five times, the most recent of which was last year’s edition held in the UAE.
