Zamalek received unfortunate news after the announcement that one of its stars had suffered a torn cruciate ligament, ending his season before it even began.
According to the club’s announcement, central defender Ahmed Hossam suffered a cruciate ligament injury during his participation in Friday’s friendly match against Orange, Zamalek’s first in preparation for the new season.
The 23-year-old player will likely have to undergo surgery outside Egypt to begin his recovery. His absence, as usual, could extend to a period of eight to ten months.
Ahmed Hossam’s injury exacerbates Zamalek’s defensive woes, forcing the club’s management to search for a replacement central defender, especially since Salah Mossadek is likely to leave, leaving Hossam Abdel-Majid and Mahmoud El-Wensh as the only options available to coach Yannick Ferreira.
Ahmed Hossam joined Zamalek during the last winter transfer window, but he only made two appearances for the Mit Okba team.
With the return to pre-season preparations, the player participated in the second half of the friendly against Orange, but minutes later he fell injured, before undergoing tests that confirmed a torn cruciate ligament.
