Official: UEFA Fines Barcelona for Financial Fair Play Rules

UEFA has announced fines against Barcelona and several other European clubs for breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

The first chamber of the Club Financial Control Body (CFCB), chaired by Sunil Gulati, concluded that Barcelona, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Lyon, Porto, and Hajduk Split had failed to comply with FFP rules for the last two financial years (2023 and 2024).

The chamber paid particular attention to transactions involving the sale of tangible or intangible assets and player transfers of all kinds. Accordingly, the aforementioned clubs were asked to make adjustments, as profits from the audited transactions cannot be considered as reliable income, according to UEFA.

UEFA imposed a fine of €60 million on Barcelona, but after the settlement, it was reduced to €15 million, and the club is required to bring its accounts into compliance with FFP rules within two years.

Chelsea was the highest fined, receiving €80 million, later reduced to €20 million, and given four years to rectify its books.

All clubs also agreed to restrictions on the registration of new players on their UEFA Club A List. This restriction may be conditional, unconditional, or both, and may cover one or more seasons depending on the length of the settlement.

It should be noted that Lyon has agreed with UEFA not to participate in European competitions if its relegation to Ligue 2 is confirmed.
