Official: Carlo Ancelotti appointed Brazil national team coach

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced in an official statement the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as the national team’s new coach, replacing sacked Dorival Junior. Real Madrid has yet to make any statement on the matter.

Ancelotti has faced considerable criticism and pressure in recent months, culminating in the team’s Champions League quarter-final exit to Arsenal and compounded by the Copa del Rey final loss to Barcelona. The decision was subsequently made to terminate the Italian’s services at the Santiago Bernabéu at the end of the current season.

In a statement on Monday, 24 hours after Ancelotti’s defeat with Real Madrid in El Clásico, which resulted in the team losing the La Liga title, Brazil announced the 65-year-old as the new Seleção coach. He will take over after May 25, the date of Real Madrid’s final La Liga match.

Brazilian Football Confederation President Ednaldo Rodrigues commented on Ancelotti’s appointment, saying, “Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival in Brazil is a strategic move and a message to the world about our preparations for the coming period.”

He added, “Ancelotti is the greatest coach in history, and now he’s taking over the greatest national team on earth. Together, we will write a new chapter of glory for Brazilian football.”

Ancelotti is one of the most successful coaches in football history. He is the only coach to have won all five major leagues (England, Spain, Italy, Germany, and France), and he is also the coach with the most Champions League titles in history, with five titles (three with Real Madrid and two with Milan).

Xabi Alonso will be the new coach of Real Madrid. According to media reports, Ancelotti’s departure and the appointment of the young coach are expected to be announced in the coming days, with his duties beginning with the 2025 Club World Cup.
