Not the UAE or Saudi Arabia… Another Arab Country to Host the Egyptian Super Cup

The UAE declined to host the 2025 Egyptian Super Cup, raising many questions about where the tournament would be held. Egyptian media outlets then reported that the event would be held in Cairo.

The next edition of the Egyptian Super Cup was supposed to be held in the UAE, but the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, following last season’s events, decided not to host the tournament again, threatening the overall economic situation of the competition.

Ultimately, however, an Arab country is actively working to host the Egyptian Super Cup, and negotiations between it and the Egyptian side are said to be in advanced stages.

Kuwait Close to Hosting the Egyptian Super Cup

Sheikh Ahmed Al-Youssef, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Football Association, announced that his country is keen to host the “major Arab event.”

Al-Youssef said in press statements, “We are in an advanced stage of negotiations, and if things go well, the Egyptian Super Cup may be held in Kuwait.”

Kuwait could be a prime location for hosting the Egyptian Super Cup, no less efficient than the UAE, especially given the large Egyptian community there. The stadiums will be packed with fans, ultimately generating economic benefits for all parties involved.

Kuwait hosted the recent Gulf Cup and received widespread praise for its success. It currently boasts several exceptional stadiums, most notably Jaber Stadium in the capital.

When will the 2025 Egyptian Super Cup be held?

According to Sheikh Ahmed Al-Youssef, the tentative date for the 2025 Egyptian Super Cup in Kuwait will be early November.

The date has yet to be confirmed, as the upcoming season will be extremely busy for Egyptian football, with the Arab Cup, in which the Pharaohs will participate with a reserve team, and the Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to kick off in Morocco in mid-December.

Initial reports suggested the tournament would be held in 2026, so it’s difficult to confirm that the Egyptian Football Association and participating clubs would agree to an early November tournament. Otherwise, the Egyptian Premier League would be irregular, contrary to expectations.

Which teams will participate in the 2025 Egyptian Super Cup?

For the third consecutive edition, the Egyptian Super Cup will be played with four teams.

Al Ahly will participate as last season’s Egyptian Premier League champions, Zamalek as Egypt Cup champions, Ceramica Cleopatra as Egyptian League Cup champions, and Pyramids FC as Egyptian League runners-up.

Zamalek is expected to meet Pyramids FC, while Ceramica FC will meet Al Ahly FC in the semi-finals, as was the case in last year’s UAE edition.

It’s worth noting that Al Ahly is the defending champion of the last edition, having defeated Zamalek on penalties after a goalless draw after regulation and extra time.
