Jose Mourinho fans were hoping for a quick return to coaching for the Special One after his name was linked in the past few hours to take over at Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League.
Nottingham Forest announced late Monday the dismissal of their coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, due to disagreements between him and the club’s owner.
Mourinho, who had previously welcomed the idea of coaching a mid-table Premier League club, was considered a potential successor to his compatriot Nuno Espirito Santo, but Nottingham Forest ultimately chose another option.
That option was Australian coach Ange Postecoglou, who has already signed a two-year contract to coach the English club.
Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis commented on the decision to appoint Postecoglou, saying, “We have brought in a manager who has consistently proven his ability to deliver trophies. We believe his wealth of experience and desire to build something exceptional, which makes him special, will help us on our journey.”
Postecoglou led Tottenham to the Europa League title last season, returning Spurs to the top flight after a 15-year absence. However, the London club’s poor Premier League position prompted Daniel Levy to sack him.
Postecoglou’s experience at Nottingham Forest will be interesting, given that Nuno Espirito Santo has built a highly defensive team, while the Australian is known for his bold attacking football, regardless of the opposition.
