German press reports indicate a final agreement between Liverpool and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike for the Frenchman’s transfer to Anfield this summer, and negotiations are currently underway between the two clubs to finalize the deal.
Liverpool wanted to sign Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, and the English club was willing to pay £120 million to complete the deal. However, the Magpies refused to sell and are holding onto the player, whose contract runs until the summer of 2028.
According to Bild, an agreement between Liverpool and Ekitike has been reached, and the player, in turn, has taken the first step to pressure Frankfurt to complete the deal by submitting an official transfer request and emphasizing that he only wants to join the Reds.
Liverpool is said to have submitted its first official offer for Ekitike in the past few hours, worth €80 million. However, Frankfurt wants more money and concessions to complete the deal. However, the process is not expected to take much longer, given the desire of all parties to complete the process as quickly as possible.
Newcastle had also submitted an €80 million bid for Ekitike a few days ago, which was rejected by Frankfurt. The Saudi Arabian club’s management subsequently decided to withdraw from the deal, especially given Isak’s commitment to continue with the club regardless of any offers.
Ekitike was one of the most prominent players in the Bundesliga last season, making a total of 34 appearances for Frankfurt in all competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing six assists. He is expected to become the most expensive signing in the Eagles’ history, surpassing the €77 million sale of Omar Marmoush to Manchester City last January.
