Mohamed Salah believes Liverpool were eliminated from the Champions League by the best team on the continent, Paris Saint-Germain.
In a lengthy interview with L’Equipe, the Egyptian international spoke about the March period, which saw the European failure and then the Carabao Cup final loss to Newcastle.
Salah said, “Facing Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League was difficult. We played a good match in the second leg, and Alisson was brilliant in both matches.”
He added, “We were in good form throughout the season, except for March. We declined a bit, but we faced the strongest team in Europe at that time (Paris Saint-Germain).”
He continued, “We played a good match in the second leg, and they played a good first match. In the end, we were unlucky and hit the crossbar three times, and then the penalty shootout decided the outcome.”
He added, “After the match, I went to the Paris Saint-Germain players to congratulate them on their good performance, and I asked them to win the Champions League.”
“We performed poorly after the first exit, which is logical. We were affected by our exit from the tournament, and the result was that we lost the League Cup due to the poor timing of the final,” he concluded.
