Newcastle United have completed a major signing, signing Stuttgart star Nick Woltemade to replace Alexander Isak in Eddie Howe’s attack.
Since the beginning of the summer, Woltemade had been in talks with Bayern Munich for €70 million, but Stuttgart refused to sell him to the Bavarian club. The Bundesliga giants’ offer was set at €60 million, and negotiations collapsed.
Despite Stuttgart’s assurances that Woltemade would stay, Newcastle entered into negotiations with the German club and the player over the past 24 hours, leading to an agreement to sell him.
According to Sky Sports, Woltemade will join Newcastle for €90 million, the largest transfer fee in Stuttgart’s history.
Stuttgart couldn’t resist the financial temptation of selling the 21-year-old Woltemade for this price, after he joined the MHB Arena last summer on a free transfer from Werder Bremen.
Woltemade is the first piece in Newcastle’s transfer market to replace Isak. British media reports indicate that the Magpies are planning to sign another striker, most likely Brentford star Yoan Wissa, with the Swede set to leave before the beginning of next September.
It’s worth noting that Liverpool are preparing to submit their final, improved offer to Newcastle for Isak, expected to reach a total of £150 million, at which point the Saudi Arabian club will agree to sell the Swede.
