Newcastle tried to convince Alexander Isak to stay at the club for at least one more season, but the Swedish international completely rejected the idea and confirmed his desire to move to Liverpool this summer, whatever the cost.
Isak has been absent from Newcastle’s training camp for some time as part of his policy to pressure the Newcastle management. The club rejected Liverpool’s initial offer, but is expected to eventually yield before the end of the current transfer window.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle’s management contacted Isak in recent days and offered him a contract renewal with a record salary, which would be the highest in the club’s history.
Meanwhile, to reassure Isak that his stay at St. James’ Park would not be prolonged, the club offered the option of an affordable release clause, effective from the summer of 2026.
Although the offer seemed reasonable at first, Isak again rejected it, clearly informing the club that he never wanted to wear the Newcastle shirt again.
Liverpool are expected to make another move in the final week of the transfer window, submitting a record £150 million bid to Newcastle to secure Isak’s transfer, making him the most expensive player in Premier League history.
