New blow: Real Madrid star out for another month due to injury

Injury has struck again for one of Real Madrid’s stars, delaying his return to action as a result. This is another blow for coach Xabi Alonso before the start of the new season’s preseason.

Injuries were the dominant feature of last season for Real Madrid, with over 30 injuries. This undoubtedly cast a shadow over the season that Carlo Ancelotti’s squad had to endure.

The number of injured players at Real Madrid has significantly decreased before the start of the 2025 Club World Cup, but the injury curse continues to haunt Los Blancos.

David Alaba out for another month

According to an official statement from Real Madrid, David Alaba sustained a muscle injury in the sole of his left foot while preparing to return to training with the club in the coming period.

Due to this injury, the Austrian international will be out for at least another month, meaning he won’t return until the beginning of next August. This reduces his chances of participating in Real Madrid’s La Liga matches, scheduled for the second week of August.

Alaba is currently in the United States with Real Madrid and suffered the injury during training. The Los Blancos decided to keep him with Xabi Alonso’s squad, allowing him to begin his recovery program immediately.

Alaba has not participated in any matches for Real Madrid in the 2025 Club World Cup due to a torn meniscus sustained at the end of last season. He was expected to return before the start of the Round of 16, but the injury ended his chances of participating in the World Cup.

Real Madrid wants to get rid of Alaba

Alaba’s injury comes amidst reports that Real Madrid is looking to offload David Alaba due to his advancing age and failure to regain his form since returning from the serious injury he suffered in 2023, which sidelined him for a year and a half.

Although Alaba excelled in his first two seasons with Real Madrid, it became clear that he would never return to his former form. His large salary remains a financial burden on the club, and with the arrival of Den Huijsen, he will likely remain on the bench.

According to Spanish media, despite everything, Alaba has no intention of leaving Real Madrid before his contract expires in the summer of 2026. On the one hand, no club is willing to pay his large salary, and on the other hand, the player is happy at the Santiago Bernabéu, even if he is sitting on the bench.

It’s worth noting that Alaba returned from injury last season in February. Since then, he has only played 14 matches, most of which were at a very modest level, not like his pre-injury level or during his famous journey with Bayern Munich.
