Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has stipulated that Marc-André ter Stegen must demonstrate 100% physical recovery before being included in Germany’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
The German goalkeeper suffered a major setback after tearing his left hamstring just days after joining Girona on loan from Barcelona during the January transfer window.
The 33-year-old underwent surgery in Finland to repair the injury and now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
When asked about Ter Stegen’s situation, Nagelsmann responded, “This is a tragic injury, and I truly feel sorry for Ter Stegen.”
He added, “There are three things to consider regarding the goalkeeper position, and out of respect for him, I would never completely rule him out because it’s his turn.”
“We have to make the right decision for him and for us, and currently, the situation isn’t in our favor. He needs to be 100% physically ready first,” he added.
Reports indicate that Ter Stegen could be sidelined for at least three months, making it unlikely he will feature much in the remainder of the season.
