Jamal Musiala returned to Bayern Munich’s starting lineup in the best possible fashion, scoring the opening goal that paved the way for a 5-0 victory over Bodø/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League.
The match marked the German star’s first start of the season, following his substitute appearance against Schalke and his absence from the first three official matches due to a health issue.
Speaking after the match, Musiala said: “I am extremely happy to have scored, and happy to be back in the starting XI in the Champions League.” He added: “I am gradually regaining my rhythm, and the team has supported me a lot—both the coach and my teammates; they have been a huge help.”
Bodø/Glimt held firm until the end of the first half before Musiala broke their resistance in the 47th minute. Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies then added two more, while Michael Olise completed the five-goal haul with a double.
This return follows two instances where Musiala collapsed during friendly matches against Leipzig and Heidenheim, after which he revealed a diagnosis of brief, temporary absence seizures linked to a treatable neurological disorder.
The player confirmed he continues to play football under ongoing medical monitoring and approval from neurologists, while manager Vincent Kompany clarified that Musiala has not suffered any new episodes in recent weeks.
Musiala had experienced a stop-start season due to injuries, yet remained a pivotal figure. He also featured in all four of Germany’s matches at the 2026 World Cup, scoring against Curaçao. His contract with Bayern runs until 2030, capping a career that has already earned him six Bundesliga titles and a Champions League trophy.
