The Royal Moroccan Football Federation announced the appointment of João Sacramento as assistant coach to Mohamed Ouahbi for the Moroccan national team.
Walid Regragui resigned from his position with the Atlas Lions, and the announcement was made officially on Friday morning, with Mohamed Ouahbi, who led Morocco’s under-20 team to victory in the FIFA U-20 World Cup, taking over.
Sacramento, who previously served as an assistant to José Mourinho at Tottenham and Roma, will be Wahbi’s second-in-command for the Moroccan national team.
According to Moroccan media, Sacramento’s fluency in Spanish and French, in addition to English, was a key factor in the Federation’s decision to bring him on board to assist Ouahbi.
Sacramento has extensive experience in European football, both with Mourinho and others, and is expected to bring a much-needed technical boost, especially since Walid Regragui’s coaching staff was one of his biggest weaknesses at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.
It’s worth noting that the Portuguese coach has worked with several clubs, including Lille, Monaco, and Al-Duhail of Qatar. Last year, he had his first coaching experience with LASK Linz in Austria, but it lasted only nine matches.
