Benfica coach Jose Mourinho has ruled out a return to Real Madrid should Xabi Alonso leave the club.
The Special One, who previously managed Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, has been linked to the club in recent hours as a possible replacement for Alonso.
Mourinho was asked about this at the pre-match press conference before Benfica’s Champions League game against Napoli, and he gave a firm no.
“Returning to Real Madrid? That’s a closed chapter. You’re the one who brought it up,” the Portuguese coach said.
Despite the speculation, Mourinho’s return is not a serious option for Real Madrid’s management, who are considering Castilla coach Raul Arbeloa for the job.
Jurgen Klopp remains Florentino Perez’s dream choice, but the German is unlikely to agree to return to coaching at this time.
