Moroccan coach succeeds Queiroz in Oman

The Oman Football Association announced the appointment of Moroccan coach Tarik Sektioui to manage the Omani national team, succeeding Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz.

Queiroz had agreed to leave Oman a few days prior, due to the unstable security situation in the Arabian Gulf region.

On Sunday, Oman announced the appointment of Sektioui, who has a proven track record of success with Moroccan national teams, without disclosing the duration of the contract.

Sektioui was the leading candidate to succeed Walid Regragui as coach of the Moroccan national team before the Royal Moroccan Football Federation decided to appoint Mohamed Ouahabi, who led the under-20 team to victory in the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Sektioui successfully guided the Moroccan Olympic team to a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, before leading the local national team to victory in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), and then winning the 2025 Arab Cup in Qatar.

Sektioui recently rejected a tempting offer from Wydad Athletic Club, preferring to continue coaching national teams, and then resigned from his position as supervisor of the Moroccan national teams to take on an exciting new mission in Oman.
