Mohamed Salah has made a solemn promise to the Egyptian people, declaring that the national team’s remarkable performance at the 2026 World Cup is merely a new beginning for Egyptian football on the international stage.
The Pharaohs enjoyed a historic tournament, securing their first-ever World Cup victory by defeating New Zealand 3-1. They also advanced past the group stage for the first time in history and went on to beat Australia in the Round of 32, reaching the Round of 16 in an achievement that will live long in the memory.
Hossam Hassan’s men then clashed with Argentina in the last 16. Egypt came agonizingly close to pulling off the biggest upset of the tournament, taking a commanding 2-0 lead against Lionel Messi’s side. However, La Albiceleste mounted a dramatic late comeback, scoring three goals in the final 10 minutes to shatter the Egyptian dream.
Following the squad’s arrival in the city of New Alamein on Friday, Salah took to his Instagram account to deliver a moving message to the fans:
“I know you are still feeling heartbroken, but I promise you that I will do everything in my power to ensure this is a new beginning for Egyptian football on the international stage.”
He further added:
“Qualifying for the World Cup alone will no longer be enough, and just participating will never be sufficient for us.”
