Liverpool star Mohamed Salah mourned his teammate Diogo Jota with a deeply moving message, expressing his love for the Portuguese player and his deep sorrow over his loss.
Jota died Thursday morning in a horrific car accident that claimed the lives of him and his brother, André Silva, during a trip to the Spanish city of Zamora, near the Portuguese border.
“I am speechless,” Salah wrote on his Instagram account on Friday.
He added, “Until yesterday, I never imagined that anything would scare me about returning to Liverpool after the break. Teammates come and go, but not like this.”
He concluded, “It will be very difficult to accept Diogo’s absence when we return. My condolences to his wife and children, and of course to his parents after the sudden loss of their two sons.”
It’s worth noting that Salah cut short his vacation in Greece and returned to England immediately following Jota’s accident, and is expected to headline the player’s funeral, scheduled to take place in the coming days.
