Milan Moves to Sign Real Madrid Star with Modric’s Backing

Milan are eyeing a move for one of Real Madrid’s stars in the summer of 2026, and Luka Modric could play a key role in securing the deal for the Italian club.

According to a report by Calciomercato, Milan are looking to strengthen their goalkeeping position given the expected departure of French goalkeeper Mike Maignan when his contract expires next summer.

The consensus within Milan is that Andriy Lunin, Real Madrid’s second-choice goalkeeper, is Maignan’s successor at the San Siro.

The Ukrainian’s contract with the Spanish giants runs until 2030, but an early departure is possible given his limited playing time with the consistently outstanding Thibaut Courtois.

Courtois has a relatively low release clause of €25 million in his contract, and his agent is Jorge Mendes, who has close ties to the Milan management.

The report noted that Modric also has a special relationship with Lunin, and may intervene himself to convince him to leave the hell of the substitutes’ bench and move to Milan and ensure continuous participation at the highest levels.
