Lionel Messi failed to lead Inter Miami to their second historic title, losing 3-0 to the Seattle Sounders in the Leagues Cup final.
Messi had won this title in his first year with the American club, and the Flea was hoping to repeat the feat, especially with the significant reinforcements that coach Javier Mascherano had acquired in the last transfer window.
But Messi and Inter Miami’s efforts were unsuccessful, and the Pink Club suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of the Lumen Field team, with Messi and other former Barcelona stars also participating.
Osario scored the first goal with a header in the 26th minute, followed by Alex Roldan’s second goal from a penalty kick in the 84th minute, and Paul Rothrock put the final blow to Inter Miami in the 89th minute with a third goal.
This is the 13th final Messi has lost in his career, and his first with Inter Miami.
Messi has previously lost the Copa America final three times with Argentina, the 2014 World Cup final, the Copa del Rey final three times with Barcelona, the Spanish Super Cup three times, the UEFA Super Cup in 2006, the FIFA Club World Cup in 2006, and the French Super Cup with Paris Saint-Germain in 2023.
